Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP is blood plasma with concentrated platelets. The ultra concentrated platelets found in PRP contain huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including growth factors that are vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. These bioactive proteins initiate connective tissue healing: bone, tendon and ligament regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the wound healing process.
How Is PRP Therapy Performed?
To prepare PRP, blood is drawn from the patient and then centrifuged to so that the components within the blood are isolated to produce the PRP. The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes. PRP is injected into the damaged area along with precise concentrations of ozone gas to stimulate the tendon or ligament as well as causing mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade.
Where Can PRP Be Used?
If you have already tried Prolozone Therapy but still have not found the relief you’re looking for, the next step up is PRP Therapy. PRP can be helpful for patients that are dealing with mild osteoarthritis, joint issues, and tendon and ligament tears less than 1cm. For more severe cases, PRP may be used in conjunction with Exosomes.
PRP therapy has been proven to be very effective at relieving pain and allowing patients to return to their normal lives. Both ultrasound and MRI images have shown definitive tissue repair after PRP therapy, confirming the healing process. The need for surgery can also be greatly reduced by treating injured tissues before the damage progresses and the condition is irreversible. PRP Therapy may need to be repeated 3 to 4 times over a 6 month period to achieve optimal results.
Aesthetics And Anti-Aging
Another effective area that PRP can be used for is in aesthetics. Popularized by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, the “Vampire Facelift®” has shown to be a safe and very effective way to restore collagen and elastin without the dangers of lasers, neurotoxins, and dermal fillers. Because you are using your own growth factors from PRP you won’t need to worry about your body rejecting something that is foreign.
Typically, 1 or 2 treatments are required and the results may last up to 1 year. In some cases, patients may require the use of Medicinal Signaling Cells (MSC’s) or what most people call stem cells.
